The Cadence Institute for Policy & Society advances independent, evidence-based research, public scholarship, and applied learning that inform public policy, strengthen communities, and expand opportunity. Through rigorous inquiry, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration, we translate knowledge into practical solutions that improve lives and support a more just, democratic, and prosperous society.
We envision a society where public decisions are guided by evidence, communities are active partners in shaping policy, and every person has the opportunity to thrive through equitable, informed, and effective public institutions.
Evidence-based policy analysis grounded in real community challenges.
Partnerships with nonprofit organizations, educators, policymakers, and residents.
Turning research into practical tools, recommendations, and learning opportunities.
The Cadence Institute for Policy & Society was established to bridge the persistent gap between academic research and the real-world challenges facing communities and public institutions. Too often, rigorous scholarship remains confined to journals and conferences while policymakers, nonprofit leaders, educators, and community organizations are left without accessible, evidence-based guidance to inform their work. Cadence was created to change that.
From its beginning, the Institute has embraced an interdisciplinary approach that brings together researchers, practitioners, and community partners to examine the issues shaping society today. Our work spans housing and community development, behavioral health, higher education, economic mobility, democracy and civic engagement, institutional governance, and other emerging policy challenges. Across every project, we are guided by a commitment to rigorous inquiry, intellectual independence, and practical relevance.
Today, the Cadence Institute serves as both a research institution and a public learning organization. Through policy briefs, white papers, public scholarship, professional learning, and collaborative partnerships, we translate research into action and equip communities, institutions, and decision makers with the knowledge needed to build a more equitable, informed, and resilient society.

We foster dialogue among communities, policymakers, and institutions to craft strategies that promote justice, equity, and democracy. Our educational initiatives support decision-making at all government levels, underpinned by thorough policy briefs.

We organize public forums, seminars, and community events that amplify diverse voices and foster engagement. These spaces encourage collaboration, leadership, and shared solutions, supported by insightful policy resources.

We empower emerging leaders and community members with skills and knowledge for advocacy and research. Our workshops, fellowships, and mentorship programs prepare the next generation of policy innovators.

We produce high-quality, accessible policy briefs, white papers, and reports that inform decision-makers, practitioners, and the public about essential topics. Our research covers areas such as public policy, law, economic empowerment, empowerment education, mental and public health, and community engagement.

We conduct independent, interdisciplinary research and deep analysis on pressing societal challenges, emphasizing community engagement and empowerment education. Our work highlights emerging issues, evaluates existing policies through comprehensive policy briefs, and proposes innovative solutions grounded in data and lived experience.

We partner with local, state, and national communities to mobilize collective action through community engagement. By building policy briefs that place community voices at the center, we help translate grassroots priorities into structural change, fostering empowerment education along the way.
